The high quality straws that I use take a master weaver 7-10 days to hand weave each piece of straw. Their work is exquisite and very expensive. The price of the top grade parisisal (the queen of straws) increased 400% in recent years. There's only one firm left that still weaves by hand, and milliners from all over the world bid for the small amount of this wonderful straw that's produced each year.
Then it takes me several days to create unique dye colors, dye and dry the straw, steam, block, shape, size and trim each hat to create the final piece. Handmade couture millinery is a dying art, and the hat you acquire today will become a collectors item, as these are wearable works of art.
